City: | Bern, Switzerland |
Projecttype: | New hospital building |
Projectsize: | GFA: 82,000 m² |
With the new main building of the Inselspital Bern, the new Swiss Heart and Vascular Center is being built in construction area 12. The 18-story building with its 82,000 m² will house the cardiovascular center as well as numerous other specialist clinics and will replace the neighboring bed tower from 2023. The Inselspital will house a large number of administrative units in a modern style. As part of the construction work, the project also includes adjustments to the existing buildings to enable functional integration into the overall hospital operations of the Inselareal. Above-ground bridges were implemented to the INO emergency center and the pediatric clinic, while underground connections are provided to the bed tower and the existing media supply system. The necessary adaptations to the existing buildings were planned, coordinated and implemented within the project framework. The new building is a pioneering hospital building that is the first hospital building of this size and complexity to be built according to Minergie P-Eco certification and thus meets the highest requirements of ecological sustainability goals. The planning of the new main building with the BIM method represents a pilot project for the Inselspital Bern and thus serves as a reference project for the future restructuring of the Inselareal Bern.
From the early planning stages, HOCHTIEF ViCon supported the implementation of BIM in the planning team and, in this context, developed a suitable BIM strategy for the project. In addition to the development of the BIM execution plan (BAP) based on the prepared AIA and in an advisory capacity to ARCHIPEL and the client University Hospital Bern, HOCHTIEF ViCon provides an on-site BIM manager to support, develop and control all BIM processes including the development and implementation of a holistic BIM quality assurance concept within the project team. The use of the ViCon BIM Manager ensured the implementation of the BIM execution plan in the project. HOCHTIEF ViCon's BIM services included BIM implementation, consulting, and management, as well as quality assurance of the large number of specialized models and their extensive and regular clash checks. The data required to track the sustainability goals was entered in the individual specialist models and tracked by the BIM manager. The coordination and resolution of the conflicts took place under the direction of the BIM manager in planning meetings with all planning participants. Neutral data exchange in the project took place via IFC and BFC. Furthermore, ViCon supports the general planner in setting up a project database and data structures as well as in introducing and managing digital systems for quality assurance and for acceptance on the construction site - Field2BIM. To enable an efficient handover to operations, HOCHTIEF also supported ViCon in integrating the as-built model into the client's CAFM system by filtering the relevant information (as-built to FM model) based on the requirements of the CAFM system already taken into account during the preparation of the BIM execution plan.
