BIM Germany is the national hub for the digitalization of construction. It serves as the federal government's central public point of contact for information and activities pertaining to Building Information Modeling (BIM), and it is jointly operated by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building. Its purpose is to bundle competencies in those fields, to act as a central point of contact, and to coordinate and drive forward all necessary developments. Coordination efforts concerning international developments and standardization are also part of the tasks assigned to BIM Germany.
HOCHTIEF ViCon is part of the BIM competence center and is responsible, among other things, for the activities of the work packages in the area of consulting and training. In addition, HOCHTIEF ViCon supports the harmonization and introduction of the most important BIM applications that have been selected by the ministries.
The consortium surrounding BIM Germany consists of various partners and is led by planen-bauen 4.0 GmbH. HOCHTIEF ViCon, as part of the consortium, has been tasked with providing advice regarding the introduction of BIM to the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport as well as to the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Building for the next four years. As the federal government's central public point of contact for issues relating to the digitalization of construction, quality assurance, and coordination of BIM activities, BIM Deutschland provides support to the federal government in the development and implementation of a uniform, standardized, and open BIM strategy; the development of requirements and benchmarks; the establishment of training and continuing education concepts; the establishment and content maintenance of a BIM portal that includes a database, testing tools, and BIM objects; the development of a strategy for BIM in the operation of federal properties; and the development of a strategy for the next steps to be taken post-2020.
