The first edition of the Future BIM Implementation Qatar was placed within the innovative environment of the Project Qatar 2015. The Future BIM Implementation conference welcomed 215 delegates over two days and delivered a series of case-study presentations, discussions and speakers sharing their varied experiences of BIM Implementation. The program focused on demonstrating the value of BIM in construction and infrastructure projects and addressed the growing use of BIM management and BIM technologies in the region.
ViCon’s BIM Implementation Manager Robert Grys was the first speaker of the day after the Chairman’s welcome and he presented “Understanding a BIM implementation plan - the learning process”. The audience received valuable insight in understanding the challenges of the BIM setup on a project and furthermore some practical guidance and tangible tips for preparing a BIM Implementation plan according to ViCon’s Five-Components methodology.
Marcus Rowsell, ViCon’s Senior Project Manager on Qatar’s Lusail City Development project, was invited to showcase the Lusail City BIM implementation. This ambitious enterprise is one of the most impressive projects in the region. He provided a brief insight into six years of ViCon’s BIM approach and demonstrated live the digital payment approval process as part of the applied BIM procedures on Lusail.
With René Schumann on the advisory board, HOCHTIEF ViCon advised the conference organizer on the conference content from day one. ViCon’s vast BIM expertise is due to more than 10 years project work on more than 400 projects worldwide. For the past years the company has been involved in several large scale projects in Qatar: the Lusail City Development, Barwa Commercial Avenue, Metro Green Line and Red Line South, Doha Expressways, and many more.
Visitors of the conference repeatedly stressed ViCon’s leading role and driving force on the regional BIM market and praised our presenters as knowledgable and intriguing speakers. Therefore the expectations for the recently announced BIM User Day 2015 in October are set high. ViCon organizes this non-profit series in partnership with the Qatar University and the Teesside University. The last four BIM User Days, the biggest local BIM events in that format, were an invaluable opportunity to bring together regional experts and interested parties from all areas of the industry, and to increasingly involve students and young professionals to be prepared for the growing demand in Qatar and the Gulf. The immense interest and growing number of attendees over the past two years have shown that the demand for BIM services in the region is steadily growing.
