The research project on BIM cost planning is part of the national research program "Zukunft BAU" and is intended to counteract the trend of rising construction costs. The BIM method should help to better evaluate construction projects in terms of quality, deadlines and, in particular, costs. The potential of the method is to be used efficiently for building construction by taking into account German Standard DIN 276 [2] for cost planning as well as the integration of existing cost databases into the BIM process. In this way, cost tracking is to be ensured over the course of the project. The results will be summarized into a new guideline and major key indicators for future projects will be defined.

HOCHTIEF ViCon is involved in the project together with Schüßler-Plan Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH and HafenCity University Hamburg. ViCon takes over the leadership of work package three, in which requirements for databases with realized construction projects in the field of residential construction are defined and possible already existing databases as well as cost databases are analyzed and evaluated. Based on this, recommendations for the development of such a database will be elaborated.
