The German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has been implementing a strategy (BIM road map) to digitize the construction industry. The BIM road map published in 2015 stipulates that from 2020 new infrastructure projects have to be carried out by using the BIM method. In order to support the profound technological change in the construction industry, the BMVI, together with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI), established the German National BIM Competence Center for Infrastructure and Building Construction in July 2019. It is supposed to bundle competencies in this area, to act as a central point of contact as well as to coordinate and advance the necessary developments. In addition, coordination with international developments and standards is part of the tasks of the German BIM Competence Center.
HOCHTIEF ViCon is part of this BIM Competence Center and will be responsible, among other things, for consulting, training and committee work both nationally and internationally. HOCHTIEF ViCon will also support the introduction of the 21 BIM use cases selected by the BMVI.
The BIM Competence Center consists of various partners and is managed by PlanenBauen 4.0 GmbH. The next four years, HOCHTIEF ViCon will advise the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Construction and Community on the introduction of BIM. The Competence Center will support the federal government in the development and implementation of a uniform standardization and open BIM strategy, the development of requirements and standards, the establishment of training concepts, the establishment and maintenance of a BIM portal (with a database, test tools and BIM objects), the development of a strategy for BIM in the operation of federal properties and the development of a strategy for the next steps after 2020.
