The importance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the construction industry is constantly growing. In many countries, clients already demand BIM. This change not only affects major corporations but also those involved in construction at regional level. Therefore HOCHTIEF ViCon has partnered with the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the Ruhr University Bochum, to establish the “BIM Cluster Rhine-Ruhr”. Its inauguration was celebrated on October 29th at the office park Gruga in Essen.
The Cluster’s declared mission is to drive the discussion and regional exchange of BIM as a close-meshed network of business, research, and small and medium-sized companies in the Rhine-Ruhr area. The main goal of the involved companies and institutions is to actively shape the development of BIM with all of their know-how. The support and networking opportunities for the regional BIM players are as important to the founding members. HOCHTIEF ViCon will contribute its experience in implementing BIM projects worldwide. “We will strengthen the region with our international knowledge and thus more firmly establish BIM as a key concept,” explains Dirk Schaper, Managing Director of ViCon.
The inauguration of the Rhine-Ruhr Cluster also emphasized the importance of the entire value chain from an idea, over construction to operation, which was clearly reflected in the audience: the 60 attendees included architects, engineers and representatives from IT companies, consultants, construction companies, manufacturers and facility management service providers.
