The International BIM (Building Information Modeling) Week, which took place in Munich from October 7 to 11 with 500 participants, was dominated by international meetings and workshops. The high point was the 17th buildingSMART Forum at BMW World, which had around 300 visitors. It was an important milestone on the road to embedding the BIM method in the minds of all individuals involved in planning and construction.
The BIM approach is slowly but surely gaining a foothold in Germany as well, as the event organiser—buildingSMART e.V.—can confirm with its activities. Dirk Schaper (photo), a member of buildingSMART e.V.’s executive committee and Managing Director of HOCHTIEF ViCon stated in his welcome speech, for example, that economic and political decision-makers have been “truly aware” of BIM for the first time this year. He added, however, “BIM is not mainstream.” He therefore sees it as the mission of the association and the other main market players to present BIM in a clear and simple way, in order to exploit its potential for sustainable added value.
