How can the as-built condition of a structure be effectively captured and associated data and information be meaningfully reused? Usually, existing 2D plans are used or a laser scan is performed to capture the data. However, existing 2D plans are often difficult to read and a resulting point cloud regularly poses challenges for planners. BIMiB explores solutions for automated analysis of 2D plans and point clouds for use in 3D model creation. The accompanying artificial intelligence (AI) is trained to automatically detect relevant components within the point cloud. In the next step, the training procedure will be further refined. Eye-tracking technology is used to track the approach of BIM authors when creating 3D models. This enables an evaluation of the cognitive thought processes that the modeler intuitively applies based on his or her experience. The results of this evaluation are subsequently incorporated into the training of the AI, allowing for much more focused assistance to users. Further test subjects are welcome here.
As a sponsor of the research project, ViCon advises on the elaboration and provides the input for the model creation and quality assurance of the 3D models. In addition, ViCon provides as demonstrator.
We are looking forward to further developments in this impressive research project.
