BIM at PLM’15 – ViCon presents latest research results

Researchers, developers, and users of PLM met at the 12th International Conference on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM’15) in Doha on October 19 till 21. This year’s edition offered 150 participants from 26 countries the possibility to exchange innovative ideas, research results and recent developments.

On Monday, October 19, 2015 HOCHTIEF ViCon’s Project Manager Dr. Racha Chahrour and her Co-Presenter Mr. Mian Atif Hafeez spoke at the “BIM Special Session” and presented on “Investigating the potential of delivering Employer Information Requirements in BIM enabled construction projects in Qatar”. The lecture demonstrated the latest results of the research project that is funded by Qatar Foundation. The development of Qatar-specific BIM based protocols is one of the major research goals with the deliberate focus on information flow from design phase to operation phase. Co-authors are also Prof. Nashwan Dawood, Vladimir Vukovic and Mohamad Kassem.

BIM is a method for optimizing design, execution and operation of construction projects using 3D computer models and considering a holistic life cycle ap-proach, therefore it is considered as a vital part of PLM. PLM is an integrated business approach to the collaborative creation, management and dissemination of engineering data throughout the extended enterprises that create, manufacture and operate engineered products and systems. Since 2003 the conference series aim to involve all stakeholders of the wide concept of PLM, shaping the future of this new field and advance the science and practice of enterprise development.
