As part of the "EConoM" research project of the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport, work package 2 "Application Analysis & Use Case Definition" has been launched under the leadership of HOCHTIEF ViCon.
As the name of the work package suggests, use cases are to be defined to enable successful integration of new technologies. To this end, relevant information requirements are first identified so that the targeted technological developments can also be worked out in a target-oriented manner. The goal of the work package is to provide the use of edge computing, artificial intelligence and 5G technology for the construction industry.
To this end, experts from construction and design meet weekly with experts from technology and research. Constructive discussions are then held to assess points of contact for integrating the new technologies and align different approaches to a common starting point.
In the first step, short and concise fact sheets were formulated, briefly explaining both the construction and technological use cases. Particular emphasis was placed on how the process flow can be digitally supported and adapted in the future. The technological use cases were defined based on the expertise of the project partners, while the construction-related use cases were based on the standardized formulation of the framework document of the Masterplan BIM Bundesfernstraßen.
The definition of use case profiles thus forms the first milestone for work package 2. In the following months, the defined use cases will be further detailed and the necessary information requirements will be incorporated into the technological elaboration. We are already looking forward to the results and will report further.
A big thank you also goes to the entire consortium for the great and imaginative cooperation!
