HOCHTIEF ViCon’s Managing Director Dirk Schaper and DB Netz AG’s technical project manager Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Grundhoff jointly presented the „BIM application experience at Tunnel Rastatt” at the 23rd Geotechnics colloquium in Darmstadt, Germany. The Tunnel Rastatt project is one of four BIM-pilot projects of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure which aims to establish a mandatory future BIM framework in Germany.

Deutsche Bahn AG is one of the first German enterprises introducing BIM on large scale projects. The use of BIM methods will emphasize advantages in form of the best possible transparency in all phases of the project in tandem with continued high reliability. HOCHTIEF ViCon supported this DB project in BIM implementation, execution and training. At the outset of this important pilot an individual implementation plan (execution plan) specified planning, preparation, management and control of all BIM disciplines involved, also defining the designated applications and participants.

Mr. Schaper summarized the collective experience of this fruitful collaboration as followed: “Progressive large scale projects won’t do without digital methods; the reliable estimation of cost and risk will surely enhance the acceptance and soon lead to a broad German market deployment.” Mr. Grundhoff added: “In comparison to conventional methods the BIM-based work flows not only increase client acceptance, planning quality and schedule punctuality, but also assure a holistic project lifecycle approach.”
