Building components (walls, columns, ceilings, ...) shown in the three-dimensional CAD model can be linked to the time schedule. Erection of the building is animated in a 4D simulation by showing 3D models at different points in time. If the target and the actual schedules are linked to the CAD model, differences between planned and actual status become apparent. The 4D model thus facilitates the documentation of construction progress and the control of work done. In addition, the 4D model contains important information for planning of logistics. For instance, it can display what material is being used at what time and where. It also ensures transparent, time-related cash outflow plans and provides an invoicing basis according to work done and progress achieved.
The simulation and visualization of the construction process illustrates and renders easily accessible connections and conditions relevant to the construction of a building. The simulation of construction processes thus forms the basis for the planning team to discuss alternative building designs or different sequences of processes.
