Since April 2016, the part-time certification course “BIM Professional” has been offered in Germany. BIM – Building Information Modeling – is a method for optimizing the design, execution and operation of building structures. The basis of BIM is a digital model integrating both geometric and descriptive information, which can be enhanced by adding further information, such as time, costs, utilization. The certification course was established as the result of joint efforts by the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB), the Technical University Munich (TUM) and the BIM consulting company HOCHTIEF ViCon GmbH to cover the increasing demand for qualified personnel in the digital construction industry.
As well as practical relevance, the course covers fundamental skills in the areas of technology, processes, human resources and guidelines. Participants will learn how projects are delivered efficiently with BIM based on of proven methods and tools.
BIM Professional courses in Germany can be booked in two locations:
The Academy of Ruhr-University Bochum in collaboration with HOCHTIEF ViCon has offered courses since April 2016. The six modules are structured according to subject areas over a period of a few months. Passing a final examination, participants receive a certificate of the Academy of Ruhr-University Bochum, which identifies them as qualified “BIM Professional” experts.
The Executive Education Center of the TUM School of Management has also offered the course in collaboration with HOCHTIEF ViCon and the Chair for Computational Modeling and Simulation since May 2017. The three compact modules are structured according to subject areas over a period of a few months. Passing a final examination, participants receive a certificate of the TUM School of Management, which identifies them as qualified “BIM Professional” experts.
Both BIM Professional courses are designed as part-time trainings for Engineers, Architects, Executives and Project Managers striving for a fundamental and practical knowledge in order to implement BIM on their projects and companies. The courses are geared to the developing VDI guideline 2552.
Since September 2017, a BIM Basic User Course has been added to the BIM Professional schedule. The compact course offers extensive knowledge of the relevant basics for BIM in the areas of technology, processes, human resources and guidelines.
