3D Design Coordination
Large parts of the design processes are carried out parallel for several trades. As buildings are becoming more and more complex and planning periods more and more tight, the coordination of plans and trades is gaining increasing importance. The traditional 2D method is time-consuming and prone to errors. If, however, plans are integrated in a joint 3D model, they are easily combined and coordinated.
Geometrical conflicts between trades are calculated and recorded in a test documentation. If the architectural plan integrates the building technology, conflicts between shell construction and technical building systems can be detected at an early stage. The results of clash detection are shown in the Design Coordination System (DCS) and made available online for coordination.
Quality of execution will be enhanced, as the parties involved will be able to review the project for feasibility in advance. The correction of errors in the 3D building model is more cost-effective than errors that only become apparent on the construction site. Overall floor space required for technology as well as the ceiling height can be optimized.
Planning quality is improved by means of 3D clash detection for technical building systems and allows for a higher percentage of prefabrication. Complex pipeline runs can be prefabricated, which reduces both execution costs and construction schedule risks (lean construction).
