When I was in my fifth semester at university, I spent six months doing an internship with ViCon in Doha. I had seen some presentations on ongoing projects in Qatar which mentioned ViCon. Also, my course at university has an international outlook, and you have to complete an internship abroad before you graduate. That’s why an internship in Qatar seemed like a good idea. I did some research on the Internet and submitted a spontaneous application. Quite soon, I was invited for a telephone interview with a member of staff in Germany and another in Qatar.During my internship, I was mainly involved in creating 3D avatars for marketing future projects in Doha. They had to wear traditional clothes of the Gulf region and were to be used in computer-generated images and videos. In Qatar, many people wear such traditional clothes, and so I had plenty of opportunity to do some direct research when I was there. In addition, I was involved in implementing marketing websites for current projects and worked on developing and adapting marketing and presentation films. I quickly adapted to life in Qatar as, unlike many other Arab states, Qatar is strongly influenced by a Western way of life. Clean streets, huge shopping malls and low crime rates mean that life in Qatar is very pleasant and convenient. People from all over the world come to live and work in Qatar, and so it’s easy to meet new people. English is the prevalent language among them, and so I had plenty of opportunity to improve my language skills.
