“Challenging” was the first word that came to my mind when my internship at HOCHTIEF ViCon was approved, and it is still suitable to describe my stay in Essen. During my internship in Germany I had the opportunity to learn a language, meet different people from several countries and to widen my horizons about technical and management aspects of Building Information Modeling (BIM).I would like to say that many tasks were interesting and instructive in nature – from learning Nemetschek Allplan to designing models for Lusail city and adding comprehensible information for construction participants. During this experience I observed what managers look for in BIM, what architects want to see and what is important to constructors. It was an opportunity to see the mechanisms of bringing these interests together and afterwards providing the requested information. Outside office hours there was a lot to see in the Rhein/Ruhr region and understand what kind of advantages and consequences happened as a result of industrialization. Last but not least, the ViCon environment is multicultural, which meant a good opportunity to improve my English, learn some more German and to learn about other cultures.
