My journey with HOCHTIEF ViCon began in June 2014 when I got the opportunity to work as a BIM Intern in Doha. It was a great experience to be a part of a friendly and multi-cultural environment. All the colleagues were extremely helpful whenever I needed their assistance, be it professional or personal. My mentor was very motivating and encouraging, and always made me feel important for the project.
The most interesting thing about ViCon is that even an intern gets a huge amount of responsibility, which takes our confidence to the next level. The tasks are challenging and our mentors are counting on us. This is the best way to put theory into practice, and get the most out of our skills.
Among other projects I worked intensively on the Metro Green Line project. Along with my tasks I gained experience with 3D model quality checks, clash model preparation and 4D–model-management, mainly using Autodesk Navisworks. Beside that I got some insights into model-based quantity take off and incorporated data into ViCon’s own building information system, 3D BIS Pro, which is a great tool that provides spatial, time and quantity information in one system. Apart from that I was also responsible for the information management for this project using content management and document management systems like Bentley Projectwise and Aconex. Over all, I would say my learning curve went high after joining ViCon.
In the beginning I used to explore Doha with my friends and over time this city grew on me. The diverse communities and cultures make it an amazingly vibrant place to live in. Not only that, but I also found out that it is one of the most safest cities in the whole of GCC. I feel nostalgic, when I think of my time at ViCon. This wonderful memory will always remain in my mind and heart, and I hope that I will get a chance to relive those moments in the future again.
