Exploring the amazing

At the beginning of 2014 I was assigned as a trainee at the HOCHTIEF ViCon Qatar branch. It was real fun to explore Qatar and especially Doha. In this multicultural city you can either be part of the old Arabic heritage in Souq Waqif while enjoying a Shisha or be part of its amazing modern nightlife surrounded by modern skyscrapers while enjoying a cool beverage.
If you had enough of the city life you could take an escape to the desert in a 4X4 vehicle; driving over beautiful sand dunes to the Inland Sea in the south of Qatar or visiting some friendly Qataris in their winter camps next to the Arabian Gulf in the northern part of the country. Due to Qatar’s preparations to host the FIFA World Championship in 2022 and some other giant projects related to Qatar’s National Vision 2030 there was a lot of construction going on. The biggest projects were Lusail City, where 200.000 citizens will live one day, the Msheireb project, where Doha’s new downtown arises, or the new Doha Metro Project, which is one of the most ambitious projects worldwide.
HOCHTIEF ViCon has been involved as the BIM manager and BIM consultant on Lusail as well as on the Doha Metro lines, and as a young engineer I was glad to get the chance to be part of these amazing developments. I was trusted with many interesting tasks. All in all I was able to improve my skills and expand my knowledge about using BIM during my time at HOCHTIEF ViCon in Qatar. Additionally I met many new friends and made my experiences with Middle East’s culture and everyday life where things are not always seen in the same way as at home; insha’allah.
